Coffee

Flavorful, aromatic, harsh...What a joy! Bitter, stagnant, pungent...What an addiction? Take it black? Add some milk? Sugar-free? Ceramic mug, Styrofoam cup, travel mug? What is your fancy? Half full or filled to the brim? I prefer, pottery mug with a bit of half-and-half with no stir. A start to a good day.

In high school, Heather made a ceramic mug in one of her pottery classes at East. It was thrown with brilliance. I use it whenever I can. It is definitely the first mug to go into the dishwasher. It's a mixture of natural clay and slate blue--two different types of clay were used I think. It has a comfortable handle and the coffee--cream and sugar please--never stays too hot.

I once wrote a poem about one of Heather's coffee mugs in a creative writing class. The mug is tall, purple, and there are butterflies on it. It represents her well. Colorful, bold, and inviting. My instructor thought it was the best poem I produced in the entire class.
